Caution & Words of Wisdom:
Some herbs in this formula support normal bowel movements and therefore the dosage should be adjusted to work in this way, but not as a purgative. If digestive disturbance occurs, take mint, fennel, anise, caraway tea or other carminative herbs or ingest food concurrently with the formula to reduce gastrointestinal irritation. Do not use if allergic to iodine, have excess iodine levels or hyperthyroidism (See Hoxsey-like formula-without potassium iodide). Excess iodine can lead to increased uptake of iodine by the thyroid causing inhibition of organic iodine formation and eventually iodide-goiter or myxedema, especially in people afflicted with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. This formula is contraindicated in pregnancy or while nursing. Potassium iodide can pass into breast milk and produce emaciating effects in infants. Symptoms of iodine overdose are nausea, lack of appetite, sinus headache, skin eruptions and weakness. Chronic large doses of licorice can mimic aldosteronism by increasing sodium resorption and potassium excretion by the kidney. The symptoms of pseudoaldosteronism are hypertension, edema and hypokalemia (low potassium content in the blood). Avoid using with pre-existing hypertension. Discontinue use if hypertension is observed. The signs and symptoms listed above may be indicative of serious disorders. Seek a qualified healthcare practitioner for guidance.
